University Recognition

IB courses listed on a transcript indicate to college admissions officers that a student has pursued the most rigorous course of study available in high school. This college recognition of IB participation may be in the form of acceptance into more selective schools or the award of college credit.

Experience shows that not only are IB students accepted into more selective colleges, IB graduates complete college.

However, participating in the IB Diploma Programme does not guarantee acceptance to the college of choice or the award of college credit. Credit granted by colleges for IB coursework can vary widely, from no credit granted to full credit for one year.

For information about the credit policies at specific colleges, please refer to the International Baccalaureate Web Site.

(*Note: IB Diploma Programme students at Senn also sit for some Advanced Placement examinations for which they may receive college credit.)

IBSummer College Academy

Each year, the CPS IB Administrator, in collaboration with DePaul University, holds an IB Summer College Academy (IBSCA) at the end of the school year. IBSCA brings together over 125 rising seniors from IB Programmes throughout the city. The students participate in workshops that provide guidance on the college application process, including…
• Personal Essay writing for college – students leave with a finished essay
• College interviews
• How to complete the Common Application
• The financial aid process & scholarship applications
• The admissions process – students conduct a mock admission session with real applications
Students also had the opportunity to meet college admissions counselors from local and out-of-state colleges and universities, and attend a Top Tier College Fair.
